Bill Twomey

Billy Twomey rides for Ireland and is a leading international showjumper, currently ranked as one of the best show jumpers in Ireland. Ranking highly in the Longines World Rankings.

Billy began his competitive career in Ireland, winning the 128cms championship at Royal Dublin, & following up with National 138 and 148cms titles. With his favourite ponies Merry Colleen and Hunter's Folly achieving international success, Billy established a hunger to win.

Background

Training with Albert Voorn in Holland preceded a stint with Jason and Katrina Moore in Essex. His success on the national circuit did not go unnoticed. Before too long, the popular rider landed a dream job, as stable jockey to Michael Whitaker. With the advantage of top horses to ride and compete, it did not take long for him to stand on his own two feet. Attracting outside rides on his own merit. Billy rented a yard from Marilyn Anstee, in Saxby, Leicestershire.  Following this, with the help and support of Sue and Eddie Davies and Simon Paul, he settled into the Davies's ultra modern yard at Pewit Hall, Cheshire.

In 2011 Billy & his family relocated to their new purpose built training and competition yard at Springfield Farm, Nottingham. In readiness for the London Olympic Games in 2012, Billy was selected to ride for Ireland. The following year Billy represented Ireland on the Nations Cup Final in Barcelona winning a Bronze medal and enjoyed notable wins in Dublin at the Royal International. At HOYS he won The Leading Show Jumper of the Year. Other notable wins include the British Master Grand Prix and representing Ireland on four Nations Cup Teams.

Building on his long term success, he currently has a strong string of horses headed up by World Class stars such as Diaghilev, Ardcolumn Duke, Tin Tin, Eindhoven, Kimba Flamenco, and Pewit Nono. In addition he has some super younger horses such as Gentleman, Cardino, Hashtag, Lady Lou and Moneybroom Dancer. He also has his super star stallions Luidam and Je T'aime Flamenco standing at Pewit Stud.
